Whether you want to take civic action, directly impact the local environment, or spread the word through art – check out the list of Earth Day events below. Plan to attend one of these events, or use them to spur your own ideas for celebrating Earth Day 2025.
Tree Planting on Earth Day: Conservation Events and Community Initiatives
A wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day is by doing something to make your home or community more sustainable. If your mind immediately thinks, “I’ll plant a tree” – you’re not alone! There are numerous Earth Day tree-planting events from British Columbia to Delaware. If you’re fairly handy and like to build tools that help you be a better Earth steward, consider these fun activities: set-up a rain barrel, turn a rooftop into an apiary for pollinators, or build a worm tower (which you can do if you attend this Earth Day compost event in Australia).
If being hands-on isn’t really your thing, no problem! Take it upon yourself to learn more about all the Earth does and has to offer. This guided hike in Kansas City, Missouri allows people to connect with the natural world while learning about nearby wildlife habitats from a local naturalist.
Civic Actions for Earth Day
Earth Day can also be the perfect time to voice your concerns over environmental degradation and support of sustainability efforts. You might attend an Earth Day Town Hall Meeting like this one in Sydney, Australia. In Saskatchewan, a climate rally spanning the University Bridge is being organized and attendees are encouraged to bring their signs and voices.
You can also reach out to your elected officials. Call your local legislators about issues that are important to your community. Or set-up a meeting with your member of Congress. That’s what’s happening in Florida – Floridians for Earth Advocacy Day event will include buses to transport young climate activists from around the state to Tallahassee for advocacy training and meetings with lawmakers.
Earth Day Art Activities
Artistic expression can be a powerful tool, and some people are putting it to use for Earth Day. In Italy, the Sant’Eugenio Theatre is hosting an Earth Day musical performance. Local primary school students’ artwork, all around the 2025 Earth Day theme “Our Power Our Planet,” will be on display in Doncaster, U.K. In Anchorage, Alaska, this Indigenous art Earth Day event invites people to create their own art – dance masks common to the Yup’ik people in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. In addition to engaging the community’s artistic side, the event hopes to highlight “the importance of fully including Indigenous peoples in…conservation.”

Celebrating Earth Day is for people of all ages. So, gather up your family and friends for fun Earth Day events like these:

Earth Day Clean-up Events
Perhaps the most common type of Earth Day event is a trash pick-up. You may choose to head out on your own, picking up litter in your neighborhood or nearby natural area. But if you want to join an organized litter pick-up for Earth Day, there is no shortage of events to choose from.
In Costa Rica, this trash clean-up is focusing on a particular span of road in need in cleaning, while in Tennessee, this event will pick up litter from a local park. The Combating Plastic Pollution Along the West Coast of Cameroon event is specifically combating plastic pollution, though will surely pick up any type of garbage they find!
Perhaps you want to meet some neighbors or other like-minded people who care about the Earth while volunteering. In Finland, this neighborhood clean-up is followed by a light evening meal, while volunteers in Minnesota will be treated to donuts and chit chat following this street and park clean-up event.
Are you less of a land-lover and not afraid to get your feet wet? Then consider joining an event to help preserve waterways and watersheds. This river clean-up Earth Day event in Brazil is tackling pollution in the Piraquara River. In Malawi, this beach clean-up event will pick up litter along Nkhata Bay. And in Mumbai, India, this Earth Day trash pick-up will focus on litter in the local mangrove.
