The National Council for the Social Studies annual conference is near (November 12-15) and the Population Education staff is gearing up for what’s sure to be a great event. This year’s NCSS theme – Celebrate Social Responsibility – fits in well with PopEd resources that strive towards global citizenship and sustainability. As a member of our ever-growing global family, we all have a responsibility to be a steward of the planet and act with others in mind.
Mapping Session
Stop by Pam Wasserman’s session “Teaching Human Population with Cartograms” on Friday, November 13 at 11:10am in room R02. She will be giving away the World Population Map poster and sharing ways for you to integrate the cartogram into your teaching. A free activity guide of six lessons that utilize the cartogram will be available and after the session, you’ll be equipped to discuss population distribution, land use, global demographics and quality of life indicators with your students.
Free Stuff
Population Education’s NCSS booth will be staffed throughout the event and we’ll be giving away free classroom resources. The new World Population DVD, curriculum CDs for all grade levels, desktop copies of the cartogram poster, and much more will be available for you to take home. Our program staff will also be on hand to discuss professional development opportunities through a variety of settings.
See you in New Orleans!
