This Privacy Policy is provided by Population Connection d/b/a Population Education to underscore our commitment to privacy includes being transparent about the nature and extent of what information we collect and process and the rights that may be available to you with respect to your information. Population Education exercise reasonable precautions when it receives information from you in connection with accessing and using this website (the “Site”). We have created this Privacy Policy to inform you of the type of information we gather, what we do with that information, and the circumstances under which we may disclose your information. For example, Population Education does not collect personal information about individuals except when specifically, and knowingly provided by such individuals. Population Education does not share personal information to any third parties except in the limited circumstances described in this Privacy Policy. We ask that you please read this Privacy Policy carefully.
1. General Policy
The policy of Population Education is to respect and protect the privacy of our users. To fulfill this policy, Population Education agrees to exercise reasonable precautions to maintain the confidentiality of information provided by you in connection with accessing and using this website (the “Site”). Population Education also agrees to post prominently and in plain language its specific privacy policies. Population Education does not collect personal information about individuals except when specifically, and knowingly provided by such individuals. Population Education does not share personal information to any third parties except in the limited circumstances described in this Privacy Policy.
2. Collection and Use of Personal Information
Population Education uses the Site to provide a means for teachers to register for courses and events, to request a workshop, or to apply to be a trainer, to sell certain educational content and make other educational content freely available, to raise funds, and to otherwise promote its activities and events. To access certain features of the Site, you may be asked to provide certain personal information such as your name, email address, and employment information. We may use this information to send you emails or mailings, updates on our programs, and scholarly activities, and we may share your personal information with third-party companies as necessary for such activities (e.g. PayPal, Constant Contact, and HubSpot). Such companies are contractually prohibited from using or sharing your personal data for any other purpose.
If you make a purchase or donation, you will also be asked for your credit card number and billing address. These transactions are processed by third-party companies (PayPal for purchases; Convio for donations) and Population Education employees have no access to customers’ credit card information.
Population Education collects and processes your personal information only with your consent. Individuals can always refuse to supply personal information, can withdraw their previously-given consent to process such information, and can request access to, or correction or removal of, their personal data, with the caveat that doing so may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities for which their personal information is necessary. By using and submitting information through the Site, you consent to Population Education’s processing of your personal data in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy.
3. Additional Disclosure to Protect People or Property or As Required by Law.
In addition to the disclosures otherwise permitted by this privacy policy, Population Education may disclose personal information if we have a good-faith belief that doing so is required by a subpoena or other judicial or administrative order or otherwise required by law. Additionally, Population Education may disclose personal information where we, in good faith, deem it appropriate or necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) the rights or property of Population Education, any individual, or the general public; maintain and protect the security and integrity of our services or infrastructure; protect ourselves and our services from fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful uses; investigate and defend ourselves against third-party claims or allegations; or assist government enforcement agencies.
4. Web Data and Cookies
In addition to your personal information, Population Education may also collect standard Web server traffic pattern information generated by your use of the Site. General traffic, site usage, and length-of-stay information may be collected and stored in log files for the purpose of improving the user experience. This type of information is shared externally only on an aggregated basis.

We use a tool called “Google Analytics” to collect information about use of the Site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit the Site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to the Site. We use the information we get from Google Analytics only to improve the Site. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personal information. Although Google Analytics uses a cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit a site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. Population Education is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content on any of these other web Site. Note also that the linked Site may collect personal information from you when you link to their site and that this collecting of information is not subject to the control of Population Education. To ensure protection of your privacy, always review the privacy policies of the Site you visit by linking from this Site.
6. Our Commitment to Children’s Privacy
Protecting the privacy of the very young is especially important. We never collect or maintain information at the Site from persons we know to be under age 13, and no part of our Site is designed to attract anyone under age 13. Please do not communicate with or contact us if you are under age 16.
Any person who provides Personal Information through this Site represents to us that he or she is 16 years of age or older. If Population Education learns that personal information has been collected from a user under 16 years of age on or through this site, then Population Education will take the appropriate steps to cause this information to be deleted.
If you are the parent or legal guardian of a child under 16 who has joined our network or signed up for our emails, please contact Population Education to have that child’s account terminated and information deleted.
7. Storage and Retention of Personal Information
Your information collected through the Site is stored and processed on servers in the United States. Users in the European Union should be aware that their data will be transferred to the United States and that the European Commission has not found United States law to adequately protect the rights of data subjects. Population Education takes reasonable precautions to ensure that all processing activities conducted on our behalf are compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Under that regulation, EU users who believe their data has been misused have the right to lodge a complaint with their Member State’s supervisory authority.
In all cases, data will be stored only for as long as it is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
8. Accessing and Correcting Your Information
You can contact Population Education by email at PopEdPrivacy@populationeducation.org to inquire if we are keeping personal information about you. If we do have personal information about you, we will provide you with a readable copy of such personal information at no charge. Factual errors in your personal information, including out-of-date information, can be corrected by sending an email to PopEdPrivacy@populationeducation.org with a request for such a change that credibly shows our error.
You may always opt out of receiving some or all communications from us by unsubscribing from our email list or updating your email preferences. You can also update your email preferences here. To remove any personal information from our database, send an e-mail to info@populationeducation.org with the word “remove” in the subject line.
9. Notice and Procedure for Making Claims of Copyright Infringement
It is Population Education’s policy to respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable international intellectual property law (including, in the United States, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act). If you believe that your work has been copied in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, please provide Population Education Copyright Agent with the written information specified below. 10. Security Statement
In an effort to safeguard your personal information, Population Education takes all reasonable precautions to protect the information provided through the Site or otherwise in its possession. The complete site runs under a security certificate and all data passed is encrypted. The site employs active automated monitoring and blocking and a website application firewall. Nevertheless, despite our best efforts, no transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be totally secure.
11. Effect of Future Changes to this Privacy Policy
Population Education reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time. However, we will not apply any new policies to any of your personal data collected under an old policy without contacting you at the email address you provide and giving you the opportunity to opt out of any use of your data under the changed policy.
