Resource Overview

Students solve word problems and use packing peanuts to visualize how much CO2 is produced daily by cars, then participate in a “natural carbon sink” activity to better understand how natural areas can absorb and store carbon dioxide.

Students will be able to:
  • Describe the connection between CO2 emissions and driving cars.
  • Define carbon sink using grade-level appropriate language.
  • Identify four types of natural areas that can absorb and store CO2 from the atmosphere.
